However, that’s not the case for residents and visitors of the Laguna Madre area.

From novice to expert, anglers of all levels of experience are able to find a variety of memorable catches year round while fishing in the waters near South Padre Island.

This month, FishingBooker released its list of 10 Best Winter Fishing Destinations in 2022 and South Padre Island was ranked third.

FishingBooker is a platform for connecting anglers and fishing guides with more than 30,000 fishing trips available in destinations worldwide.

According to FishingBooker personnel, South Padre Island made the list for a variety of reasons.

From the jetties and Laguna Madre Bay to the Gulf of Mexico, the vast area provides a whole range of fishing adventures that are waiting to be explored.

The Jetties can be found on the south end of the Island at Isla Blanca Park.

From there, anglers are able to successfully target mackerel, tarpon and grouper fish even in the winter.

According to FishingBooker personnel, the area’s nearshore bay waters are the playground of redfish, snook, flounder, and speckled trout.

Offshore fishing in the area will put anglers on the trail of snapper, blackfin and yellowfin tuna, bonito, sailfish and many others.

Anglers can fish in the area from their own boat, on a pier, in the waves of the Gulf of Mexico, in the waters of the Laguna Madre Bay or by booking a trip with a captain.

After a successful day of fishing, anglers are able to enjoy their fresh-caught and cleaned fish at one of several restaurants on the Island.

From grilled or blackened to baked or fried, chefs will prepare anglers’ fresh catch in a variety of ways.

Some restaurants on the Island that offer “Cook Your Catch” include — Pier 19, Sea Ranch, Parrot Eyes, Cap’n Roys, Blackbeards, Tom & Jerry’s, Padre Island Brewing Co. and Painted Marlin Grille.
