Celebrate Hummingbird Days from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at Quinta Mazatlán on Saturday, Sept. 11 in McAllen.
Visitors will enjoy garden tours, hummingbird and native plant talks, food and marketplace vendors, and we will have the 1st Annual Hummingbird Cupcake Bake-Off.
“There will be lots to do during the event so make sure to bring out the whole family,” organizers said.
Quinta Mazatlán will kick-off the morning with a guided hummingbird and garden tour by John Brush starting at 8:30 am.
At 10 a.m. make your way to the Grand Hall for a Hummingbirds of the Valley talk presented by John Brush.
Mike Heep, owner of Heep’s Native Plant Nursery, will bring an array of great native plants for hummingbirds for purchase, and will be giving a talk at 12 noon speaking on his expertise about how to care for the plants.
“We invite all Girl and Boy Scouts to come and take part in our Youth Programs that will be going on through out the day,” organizers said. “This is a great way for them to receive badges. Stop by the Front Lawn to visit our local food and marketplace vendors.”
There will be feeders, art, books and more for you to purchase. Also, the event will have native plants for sale and educational booths to learn more about hummingbirds and their fall migration to the Valley.
“It’s exciting to see all the Hummingbirds that have been coming to Quinta Mazatlán, and we can can’t wait for families to stop by and see them flying around too!”, says Event Coordinator, Victoria Gomez.
Join the park at 11 am for the 1st Annual Hummingbird Cupcake Bake-Off. Hummingbird Cakes were named after the bird because the taste is sweet enough to attract hummingbirds and the streaks of yellow banana resemble the hummingbird’s plumage. Bakers will be judged on appearance, taste and creativity. Be there to see the winners named and maybe even get a sample.
For more information, call contact Quinta Mazatlán at (956) 681-3370 or to become a vendor or be part of the bake-off email Event Coordinator Victoria Gomez at email@example.com.
