From specialty sodas and hotdogs to uniquely made coned pizzas, many food trucks will be serving their best dishes and food creations this weekend on South Padre Island.
The second annual SPI Food Truck Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11 from noon to 8 p.m. at Beach Park at Isla Blanca.
About 15, food truck vendors from cities such as San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Brownsville, as well as other local businesses, are expected to participate in the festival.
“The waterpark will be selling alcohol,” event organizer John Garcia said. “We’ll have a whole variety of food and a little bit of everything.”
In addition to food, the event will have arts and crafts vendors, face painting, music and kids activities.
“The weather is going to be great and we’re pretty excited just to even be there, especially having the food trucks in the park because it’s pretty different,” Garcia said. “We’re kid friendly and excited to be in South Padre.”
The first SPI Food Truck Festival was held in 2019.
“This year would have been seven years that I’ve been doing festivals, but in 2020 nothing was really happening because of COVID so going forward this year has been great,” Garcia said. “Our food trucks and vendors are pretty excited just to be back. We’re a fun family-oriented event and we just want everybody to have a good time enjoying the waterpark and good food.”
Formerly known as Schlitterbahn, Beach Park at Isla Blanca offers a variety of water rides and attractions, such as its giant sandcastle water playground, uphill water coasters and lily pad wading pool area.
