South Padre Island is celebrating Labor Day all weekend long with a display of firework shows around the city.
The first set of fireworks will be displayed at 9:15 p.m. on the beachside of the Island on Thursday, Sept. 2 at the Isla Grand Beach Resort.
The fireworks continue on Friday and Saturday night on the beachside of the Island.
Clayton’s Beach Bar and the Courtyard by Marriott will host “Fireworks on the Pier” at 9:15 p.m.
There will also be a chance for viewing fireworks on the bayside of the Island on Friday.
Louie’s Backyard will host its “Fireworks over the Bay” at 9:15 p.m.
The grand finale of the Labor Day weekend extravaganza will be held on Sunday at 9:15 p.m. on the Bayside of the Island. The fireworks are sponsored by the SPI Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and will be shot from a barge anchored a few yards offshore in the bay.
“Fireworks over the water are amazing,” SPI CVB Director Ed Caum said. “You get to see the beautiful bursts in the sky, and they are reflected back up from the water.”
According to SPI CVB personnel, the best viewing spot for bayside shows is the Entertainment District, which includes many bayside restaurants. Additionally, another recommended spot is on “The Green,” a lawn where people can bring their own chairs to view the fireworks display.
Caum said many local boat captains and tour companies book specific cruises so people can enjoy the fireworks from out on the water.
“If you have never viewed fireworks from out on the water, you need to experience it,” Caum added.
