Port Isabel stages return of Summer Causeway Run

The Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce is calling all runners and walkers to the starting line as registration is now underway for the 6th Annual Summer Causeway Run.

Planned this year for Saturday, Sept. 18, the run is usually held on the first Saturday in June.

“It was decided to move the event to September to allow more time for people to be vaccinated,” organizer said on the chamber’s website.

The 5K walk and 10K run will start at the Port Isabel Community Center, cross the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge, and end at Louie’s Backyard on South Padre Island. The route is the same one that is used for the annual Causeway Run & Fitness Walk held in January.

The run will start promptly at 8 am and the walk will start 15 minutes later.

Thousands of participants are expected to turn out, organizers said.

“Everyone participating in the event will received a custom finishers medal commemorating the event,” Chamber President Betty Wells said. “Our medals have a stained glass look and have been very popular,”

Entry fees for the run start at $25 for students and military with ID, $35 for walkers and $40 for runners.

The registration form is available to download on the website or participants can register online.
